Under-16 Division Three

WOOL & WINFRITH 1 PORTLAND TOWN 5

PORTLAND Town’s youngsters hit five for the second game running as they eased to victory at Wool & Winfrith.

The islanders could have been two goals up in the first three minutes but a combination of good defending and poor finishing made it a frustrating start.

Ten minutes in, midfield duo Luke Barber and Moses Lewis combined to produce the first goal for striker Cieron Bray.

It was 2-0 when Town’s left winger Josh Basquil had a shot that cannoned off the post only for Bray to score from close range.

Just before half-time Harrison McCune delivered a perfect corner on to Bray’s head and he completed his hat-trick.

Wool might have pulled a goal back early in the second half had it not been for the bravery of Portland centre-back Jake Costello who cleared off the line with a diving header.

From the resulting corner keeper Greg Triplett made a brave save at the feet of a Wool striker.

Basquil then ran 35 yards and passed three defenders before squaring the ball into the path of Bray. He made no mistake to net his fourth of the match, but Town didn’t have it all their own way.

A lapse in defence resulted in Town conceding a penalty, however, Triplett tipped the spot-kick on to the bar.

Wool were eventually rewarded for their efforts when they scored directly from a free-kick.

But Town made it 5-1 when super sub Jay Judkins provided an inch-perfect pass into McCune who scored from a tight angle.
