A YOUNG motocross rider is gearing up to tackle the Weston-super-Mare beach race.

Tristan Daniels from Dorch-ester will compete in the famous meet on Saturday.

The event, which is now in its 32nd year, attracts thousands of riders from all over Europe.

Racing for 75 minutes in the junior class, the nine-year-old will be one of the youngest competitors in the two-day event.

The following day, hundreds of professional and amateur rid- ers will take on the unforgiving circuit.

Having started racing at six on an automatic bike, this is the county town rider’s first season on a 65cc geared bike that he uses to compete with the Ringwood Motocross Club.

This season, has already seen him represent the club in both the MCF National Team Event in Doncaster and individual Grand Slam finals in Wales as well as taking part in the Motocross Master Kids’ competition in Peterborough.

Looking ahead to the challenge of Weston, Daniels said: “I can’t wait to tackle such a well-known event, it will be hard but I just want to do myself proud.”

After completing the race, there will be no rest for the young racer as he returns to Dorset to compete in the final club championship meeting of the season the next day at Tincleton near Dorch-ester.

Speaking ahead of the event Tristan’s father Stuart said: “We are immensely proud of him every time he races but this challenge is something else because of the demands it will place on both his ability and the bike, but we know he will give it his all.”

Next season will see the young racer again contest the junior championship with the Ring-wood club as well as competing in more national events.
