WEYMOUTH St Paul’s Harriers’ athletes, Ryan Purse and Aidan Turner, represented the club at the Dorset County Cross Country Championships, held at Canford School.

Purse produced one of his best ever cross country performances to take the strongly-contested under-13s boys’ title.

He tracked eventual silver medallist Ryan Symington all the way until 1,000m from home, and then moved up a gear to pull away and build a commanding lead. The youngster eventually claimed the race by more than 30 seconds.

As county champion, Purse automatically earned selection for the Dorset team at next year’s Inter-County Champion-ships in Birmingham.

Turner is still in the bottom year of the under-17 boys’ age group and, despite being hampered with a pulled stomach muscle, he put in an impressive performance to take sixth place.

Both athletes will now compete in the South West Cross Country Championships in Bicton, Devon, on January 4.
