THOMAS Carney has received recognition for some impressive performances on the taekwondo mat by being invited to train with a national squad.

However, Carney, 13, a member of Weymouth and Dorchester Taekwondo Club, is looking for help as the British Poomsae Squad train in Mansfield and compete abroad.

Practicing taekwondo since the age of four, the youngster is now a 2nd Dan black belt and has won five gold, two silver and four bronze medals in regional and national competitions.

Last June he took part in his first international championships and finished ninth in the 12-15 age category.

While at the event he also had the opportunity to attend a seminar with a two-time world champion.

In September, Carney entered the All-Ireland Championships and came home with two silvers.

On top of that, he was given the chance to train with Olympic gold medallist Jade Jones, and this year the teenager trained alongside world bronze medallist Martin Stamper.

So far in 2015, Carney’s competitions have included the British Poomsae Championships, which featured national, European and world medallists.

He reached the final and came sixth overall.

Then, most recently, Carney claimed two gold medals while representing his club at the Chungdokwan Nationals in Bracknell.

Now he is searching for individuals and businesses to sponsor him as he looks to take his taekwondo career on another level.
