Holidaymakers are warned to reconsider their journey times as nine months of roadwork misery began yesterday.

Work has now started to improve the A338 Spur Road which is likely to affect travel time getting to and from Bournemouth Airport.

The A338 runs between Bournemouth and the A31 near Ringwood to the east of Bournemouth Airport.

However the works are causing massive congestion on other routes including Parley Cross, New Road, Christchurch Road, Avon Causeway and Matchams Lane.

Yesterday drivers reported delays of around 90 minutes throughout the morning as a result of the works.

The works are to extend the slip onto the A338 to improve safety for joining traffic and are expected to take nine months to complete.

It will see an extra southbound lane created on the section of the A338 between Blackwater junction and the Cooper Dean roundabout.

The southbound carriageway will be reduced to one lane from just north of the Blackwater Junction towards the Cooper Dean Roundabout.

There will be a temporary 40mph speed limit in place during the works.

Anyone travelling to Bournemouth Airport in the coming months is advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
