WHEN a disaster happens on the other side of the world, it very often has little impact on the inhabitants of the UK.
Not so with the people of Dorchester and the surrounding area who, yet again, were queuing up to place money in our collecting cans last week to help those afflicted by the recent tsunami and earthquake in Sulawesi.
When we add in Gift Aid, and thank you for doing that, the total raised in just two days was in excess of £4,000.
This money will be channelled through the Rotary clubs in Indonesia working with Shelterbox, into the areas where it is most needed.
Apart from the fact that you are helping to save many lives, you will also help to improve the lot of so many people who have lost everything that they owned in the world.
On behalf of all those who will benefit in any way from your kindness and generosity, I thank you from the bottom the hearts of all our Rotarians.
