Recently the Echo led with the story that our Police Crime Commissioner (PCC) was struggling to keep people safe.
Within the paper the Chief Constable was quoted as saying that £5m was the equivalent of 150 to 200 officers.
That puts the average cost of an officer at circa £30k.
The 2018/19 PCC report included within the 2018/18 Council Tax bill put the cost of running the PCC (OPCC) at £1,278K.
That equates to circa 40 officers.
It is clear from the paper that having a PCC has made no appreciable difference to the upkeep of law and order, indeed it has gotten worse!
So, can we therefore have 40 more police officers rather than a PCC please?
