YOU report “Other arguments against the [Westleaze, Charminster] development includes the effect on the wider landscape, including views from Poundbury hillfort.”

What a shame that argument has not been applied to Poundbury, which looms over the view from Charminster Down like Camelot hanging in the air. By day the current building area looks from a distance like a derelict clay pit, dazzling white. At night Poundbury lights up the sky, from whatever direction you approach. Whatever its merits, Poundbury does not “fit in the landscape.”

And something else that’s puzzled me. Why are there no roadsigns to Poundbury? As you approach along the A35 it’s indicated “Dorchester”.
