Passengers could face major disruption on the London Waterloo to Weymouth line, after a second person was hit by a train today.

The fatality happened between Weybridge and Earlsfield and is affecting South Western railway services, with delays predicted until the end of the day, according to National Rail.

All lines have now reopened following the incident, however services will still be severely disrupted resulting in delays of up to 60 minutes and cancellations.

The news comes after earlier reports of a fatality near Clapham Junction.

South Western Railway are currently in the process of arranging road replacement transport between Basingstoke and Woking.

The train operator said: "We earlier received reports that a person had been struck by a train between Earslfield and Weybridge.

"Response teams worked with the emergency services to assist with the incident. In order to allow emergency services access to the railway, all power to the track had to be switched off in the affected area for 90 minutes.

"All lines to and from London Waterloo have now reopened. However due to the time that the line was closed trains and crew will be displaced leading to further cancellations and alterations.

"However, considering the location and duration of the incident, services will be affected until the end of the day.

"This may also impact the early morning services tomorrow (Wednesday April 3).

"You may consider travelling after peak hours today or at any time tomorrow or using other routes. Your unused tickets dated today will be valid to travel on South Western Railway services tomorrow, 3 April 2019.
