Regarding your letter in today’s Echo on “blue badge entitlement”, I really think that Mr Brook has got it wrong on a number of points.

A blue badge should not be considered ”a perk”. It is issued to allow people who are sufficiently disabled, to be able to park where they are closer to the facilities they are visiting, be it shops, the beach etc.

It it true many of the pay and display car parks charge for parking, and whereas he does have a point, there are quite a number of on street bays for blue badge parking with three hour duration, also other time restricted bays that allow longer periods when used in conjunction with the blue badge.

Weymouth is not the only council to charge for off street parking, but he has a valid point perhaps, that councils generally should provide free blue badge parking in their off street parking, even if it is restricted to the three hour limit.
