I TOOK a very similar view to Mr Wild (Aug 21) about our original entry to what became the EU. I take a diametrically opposed view to him now.
His claim that (of leaving) “No one has ever suggested the process will be painless” is simply false, and the people concerned were authoritative. For example:
David Davis (10th Oct 2016) “There will be no downside to Brexit, only a considerable upside.”
Michael Gove (9th April 2016) “ The day after we vote to leave, we hold all the cards and we can choose the path we want.”
John Redwood ( 17th July 2016) “Getting out of the EU can be quick and easy - the UK holds most of the cards.”
Liam Fox (20th July 2017) “The free trade agreement that we will have to do with the European Union should be one of the easiest in history.”
It is a bit early to be rewriting the history of what happened two and three years ago.
