LESLEY Wilber-Smith’s recent letter got me wondering what’s the latest with the old council offices?
I understand the council is not keen to demolish and a conversion is favoured, perhaps flats. May I respectfully suggest a compromise to planners and councillors. With a bit of smart thinking this 70s building could easily be adapted to appear with a more Georgian, town house facade. Block and rebate some windows (window tax) turn others into bays. The roof can pitched at different levels to the front and sides with some Georgian dormers. The sunny south facing rear opens up to a roof garden. Hidden car parking on ground floor basement.
For inspiration why not visit Harbour Lights retirement complex next door. A fine example of modern design Georgian facade.
