A Dorchester care home celebrated VE Day 75 years after many of the residents' lives were transformed after the end of the Second World War in Europe.

Colten Care held VE Day celebrations at all 21 of its homes across the south coast including at the Castle View care home in Poundbury.

Residents enjoyed tea parties, songs, poetry and copies of vintage newspapers while some staff dressed up as Second World War Land Girls and performed swing and boogie-woogie songs.

Colten Care chief executive, Mark Aitchison, said: “Although we had lockdown restrictions to contend with, we always want our residents to live each day feeling fulfilled and able to share in community events.

“VE Day is an important anniversary for so many people. We know there was considerable disappointment that original VE Day 75 plans had to be cut back - but we still held a poignant and happy occasion with much colour and joy.”
