I AM a local member of an organization called Al-Anon, which provides support for the family and friends of alcoholics.
You will be aware of reports of an increase in incidents of domestic violence arising during the current pandemic; some of which have been linked to the consumption of alcohol in the home.
As you can no doubt imagine, life cannot be easy for the partner or other relative isolated at home with somebody who is drinking excessively to the point of addiction; and we believe that such people might like to be aware of the support available from Al-Anon.
Al-Anon, which is linked to but independent from Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) - which provides support for alcoholics themselves - holds regular meetings around the country, including several in Dorset.
Most of these are being held online in present circumstances.
Details of these meetings and other information about the Al-Anon recovery programme can be found on the website at www.al-anonuk.org.
There is also a free confidential helpline which can be called on 0800 0086 811.
With thanks for your attention, and best wishes.
