THE location of Weymouth’s new Burger King has been confirmed by the fast-food chain.
It was previously believed that Burger King would move into the empty business unit near to Aldi and Starbucks at the top of the Link Park estate off Chickerell Road.
Google Maps has since listed the location as being opposite Starbucks and Aldi at the Chickerell site.
A spokeswoman confirmed this is where they will open a new branch but was unable to confirm an opening date.
She said: “We are regularly evaluating opportunities to bring our great-tasting products to more customers in new locations.
“We can confirm that there will be a new restaurant opening at this location in 2021 and will keep you informed when more information becomes available.”
The news of a new Burger King restaurant sparked excitement amongst residents, with some calling it “great news for the town” which will create jobs in the area.
Describing itself as the second-largest hamburger chain in the world, Burger King is known for its flame-grilled burgers, famous Whopper burgers, chilli cheese bites, fries and hot drinks to eat in or takeaway.
When open, Burger King will have to compete with Weymouth’s two McDonald’s restaurants and KFC at Jubilee Retail Park, as well as a variety of local takeaways, for hungry diners’ attention.
It is not yet known exactly how many jobs will be created with the launch of the new branch.
Burger King is currently recruiting for a site manager and shift leader after advertising for new crew members to join.
The job applications state they are looking for people who can ‘drive sales and increase profitability and ‘provide a fantastic customer service experience’.
They are also looking for people who are ‘happy, friendly, smile and have fun’ and ensure that their restaurants ‘look presentable and vibrant’.
The new restaurant opening is a part of Burger King’s expansion in Dorset, bringing the total number of branches in the county up to five.
The fast-food chain currently has branches across Dorset, namely Broadstone, Poole and Bournemouth.
