A NEW fast-food pizzeria will be opening its doors in Weymouth next month - with dozens of jobs set to be created.

Sbarro is an American pizzeria chain that specialises in New York-style pizza and other Italian-American cuisine. It has begun opening new branches across the UK, starting with Birmingham, and is set to start welcoming customers to its Weymouth branch from April 30.

The fast-food chain describes itself as being ‘one of the largest quick service Italian chains in the world’.

As previously reported, online job advertisements for an assistant manager and manager at the Sbarro branch appeared to confirm a new outlet was opening in the Weymouth area.

The store is scheduled to open on Friday, April 30, but could be subject to change.

Between 30 to 35 jobs will be created as a result of the venture The location has not yet been confirmed by Sbarro or Euro Garages - which is in partnership with the pizzeria brand - but the job listing implies it will be in the Chickerell area.

The branch is currently looking for pizza chefs, team members, assistant manager and store manager.

Its job advertisements say the venue is looking for employees who can ‘provide a fantastic customer service experience’ and ‘be happy, friendly, smile and have fun’.

A spokesman for Sbarro in November 2020 said the company had partnered with EG Group to help open several new branches in 2020 and 2021.

Sbarro CEO David Karam said at the time: “The partnership with EG Group is very exciting.

"It’s a natural fit between the two brands.

“While pizza has been a top-selling food item in convenience stores for many years, Sbarro offers premium quality pizza, Stromboli and other menu items that are freshly prepared each day in store.

“We pioneered the concept of pizza-by-the-slice in our first location in Brooklyn, New York in 1956, and have retained the made from scratch recipes ever since.”

The news comes as Burger King confirmed plans for a new restaurant in the Weymouth area, which will open later this year.

A new American-themed restaurant - Funkin Fries - will also be coming to Weymouth’s St Thomas Street next month, after its owners opened a branch in Dorchester last week.
