PETROL heads can rejoice as a convoy of supercars are set to tour the south west region this summer - with Dorchester and Weymouth the starting point.

A parade of prestige cars will start their engines from Cornhill at 8am on July 31 and head towards Weymouth's seafront before taking the south west tour - and finish in Exeter.

The event, known as The Luxe Rally Dorset Event will include the likes of Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and Porsches.

Dorset Echo:

Spokeswoman from the Luxe Rally event, Hannah Webb said: "There will be supercars and high performance cars driving from Dorchester to Weymouth then along the coastal roads, which will certainly bring a level of excitement to the town.

"It will start in Cornhill - right at the top of the High Street opposite Costa Coffee. We will be driving through Weymouth on part of the route via the seafront - making our way through West Bay and Lyme Regis then onto Seaton and into Devon towards Torquay then through Dartmoor - finishing in Exeter.

Dorset Echo:

"The event will hopefully improve the footfall in Dorchester, as we will be there for two hours from 8am until 10am.

"We are expecting at least 15 super and high performance cars - and the drivers have all bought tickets for the event.

"This event isn't raising money for a specific charity, however we're planning on holding a charity event in the upcoming months.

"This event is just a welcome back for all the petrol heads and a chance to have fun now we're allowed."

At a trial event on Saturday May 15 the Luxe Rally event holders received a phenomenal response from the Dorchester public.

Ms Webb said: "The positive response was from the Dorchester public was overwhelming.

"Shop owners came to personally speak to us and said their thanks. We will hopefully be working together in the future as a result of such a great turnout."

The event holders will also be holding their second event of 2021 on August 2 - starting in New Forest as the convoy sets off towards east Sussex for the Luxe Brighton Run.
