DIVISION Two action in the South & West Dorset League finished on a high with two hugely contrasting matches.

A tight match between Exe Training and Sandsfoot Sirens saw Exe take a thrilling 34-33 win, earning them the runners-up spot in the final table.

Newly-formed Sandsfoot have had multiple close matches throughout the season and will continue to progress next season under the supervision of coach Ali Holmes and captain Kelly Riglar.

However, Meraki’s convincing 80-31 win over Portland Pirates and an impressive goal difference of 155 sees them sitting comfortably at the top of the table, earning promotion to Division One for the winter season.

Overall, this was a good season for all teams, as just being back on court competing after such huge disruption is an achievement in itself.

WJNC 35

BAY FENCING 42

THIS Division One clash ended 42-35 to Bay Fencing but began with a timid start from both teams, and despite some good pickups form Bay to gain possession, they were unable to convert due to the good defensive work from WJNC’s GD Mailia Brown.

Both teams then began to get into their stride.

Bay GS Charlotte Hanger found her range and was now scoring at every opportunity, while WJNC used good movement in attack.

In the second quarter, WJNC had more efficient ball movement and sharper movements, meaning both teams were now transitioning faster through court, however Bay’s high shooting accuracy kept them in the lead.

A change in WJNC shooting circle at half-time, with Erin Cutler moving into GS, who used good movement to clear space for her GA, saw them draw closer going into the last quarter.

However, Bay upped the intensity and movement in attack after the break and pulled away, eventually taking the win by seven goals.

BELLE CONSTRUCTION 57

BUGLERS 17

BELLE Construction continued their formidable Premier Division form with a 57-17 win over Buglers.

Belle’s defence began by dominating their defensive third, giving their attackers enough time and possession to work their way through some tough defence from Buglers.

The game continued to be very defensive in the second quarter, with both attacking circles having to use several passes to find their way to a goal.

In the second half, Belle’s attack started to fire, using good angles and sharp movements to get the ball to their shooters.

Buglers were using good patience with their possession, however the sustained pressure from Belle’s defence allowed them to extend the lead.

Belle took a convincing 40-goal win in the end, maintaining their unbeaten run this season.

GUNGHO MARKETING 48

CANNADOX 31

ELSEWHERE in the Premier Division, Gungho got off to a strong start in their 48-31 win over Cannadox and never looked back.

Gungho worked their way around the defenders and gained possession by consistently applying pressure to Cannadox’s attack.

This continued into the second quarter, with Gungho GD Millie Thompson intercepting several passes. Cannadox did make some changes for this quarter, including the introduction of Beck Hallett at C, which helped them increase the defensive pressure on Gungho.

Cannadox then further stepped up their game in the second half, which was much closer.

However, Gungho’s dominant performance in the first half allowed them to hold onto their lead for the win.

*Despite some great matches the highlight of the evening was Emma Bright’s delicious cake sale, which was raising money for St Margaret’s Hospice. Emma plays in the league and will also be running the London Marathon in October.
