A ROAD near Dorchester will close for several weeks for maintenance.

A 3,200 metre stretch along Poundbury Road and Roman Road in Bradford Peverell, namely between the junctions for Stratton Bypass and Normandy Way, will close to allow cabling and jointing works to be safely carried out.

A public notice from Dorset Council states the road will be closed daily from 9.30am until 3.30pm, starting from Tuesday, August 3. It is believed the works will be completed before Friday, August 27.

A 5.7-mile diversion route will be put in place which will see drivers use the A37 and B3147 to bypass the road closure.

A spokeswoman for Openreach said: “We need to install new cabling and jointing in our existing duct, so traffic management has been put in place so our engineers can do this work safely.

“The work will connect a new customer and the permit has been set for the works to start on August 3.

“We don’t have a confirmed end date yet, but the permit is in place until August 27.

“We’d advise drivers to plan ahead and leave some extra time for their journey - and thank them for their understanding.”
