DORCHESTER Sports lost their unbeaten Jewson Dorset Premier League record with a 2-0 loss at Westland Sports.

In beating Ashley James’ men, Westland avenged their 2-1 defeat in the DPL Supplementary Cup during the third national lockdown.

Impressively, Westland’s bulletproof defence is yet to concede a goal in five games, four of which have been won 2-0 and the other a 0-0 draw with Sturminster Newton.

But their guard was nearly breached as Dorchester Sports smashed the crossbar twice through Owen Peart early on.

Charlie Gosney also had a point-blank header cleared off the line as Westland somehow survived.

And the visitors were punished at Alvington when Steve Ormrod raced onto a through ball past a static defence before slotting past Matt Peart.

After scoring against the run of play, Westland reached the half-time break ahead.

Jamie Green had missed a couple of chances in the second half by the time he doubled Westland’s lead from the spot after Jamie Samways was penalised for a handball above his head.

Dorchester Sports could not find anything in response as their attacking play fizzled out for the remainder of the half.

After suffering their first defeat of the season, James told Echosport there would be no sudden reaction to the loss.

“There’s no need to panic,” he said. “We’ll hopefully get a few bodies back.

“We haven’t got the biggest squad this year so when we’re losing five or six of our main lads it’s not ideal.

“We’re hoping to get a couple of them back for Saturday, go to Wareham and hopefully pick up another three points. We’ll reset and go again.”

Sports lost the ill Alex Gould on the morning of the game, Jamie Symes to an ankle injury mid-match, while Owen Peart lasted just 50 minutes with an injury.

James said: “It didn’t really go our way, we could’ve been 3-0 up. If they go in then it’s game over.

“Our heads dropped, they scored against the run of play and a penalty just after half-time has killed us and there’s no coming back from it.

“On another day it could’ve been completely different.

“We went there with six or seven missing so it was a difficult day and a difficult place to go. If you haven’t got your full team it makes it even harder.”
