WAREHAM RANGERS 1

DORCHESTER SPORTS 4

DORCHESTER Sports won for the fourth time in six Jewson Dorset Premier League games with a 4-1 victory at Wareham Rangers.

Sports actually began this contest on the back foot courtesy of a blistering start by Rangers at Purbeck Sports Centre.

Wareham raided down the right and there was James Cass to aim a good finish beyond Nick Hutchings in the Sports’ goal in the 13th minute.

Sports were level against the run of play when a clever chested pass by Billy Brumble from Lewis Amor’s free-kick allowed Charlie Gosney to fire home with his left foot.

After the break, Jamie Samways unlocked the home defence with a good ball to unleash Nick Voss, who rounded the keeper to score from an open goal.

Away sub Owen Peart grabbed Sports’ third, his persistence paying off by winning possession in the final third and navigating his way past the onrushing keeper to convert a chance in the 73rd minute with a cool finish.

And fellow sub Gareth Will completed the scoring with burst of energy from midfield, breaking through the heart of the Wareham defence before beating the home custodian.

Speaking to Echosport, Sports’ assistant boss Dave Court said: “It was a real collective effort. Everyone played their part and contributed.

“Full credit to Wareham, they came out, started well and were the better team.

“We equalised around the 21st minute and we started to get a foothold in the game. All credit to the players.

“They identified that we needed to be better at winning first and second balls, get closer and stop playing. They did really well.

“We grew into the game and got some goals second half. It was a good game.”

Sports have now taken 13 points from a possible 18 this season.

Court said: “I think if you speak to people, most teams are having to dig deep in terms of availability.

“We’ve got a lot of lads that have come in and done a good job.

“All credit to everyone who’s been involved. We can certainly improve in certain aspects and hopefully we’ll do that as the season progresses. But it’s not been a bad start.”

In their Dorset Senior League opener, Dorchester Sports took a 1-0 win at Westland Sports Reserves thanks to Steve Churchill’s strike.
