A NIGHTCLUB owner has praised his security staff for de-escalating an incident involving a knife - as he condemned the 'idiots' who 'spoil it for everyone else'.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of affray and possessing a knife during the early hours of Monday at Actor's in Weymouth.

Parviz Marseh, manager of the nightclub, in Maiden Street, said the incident happened outside the venue on the junction between Maiden Street and Bond Street, but said his security seized the knife and brought into the venue before police arrived.

Mr Marseh said: "It was my security staff that contacted police after seizing a knife outside HSBC in Bond Street.

"It was lucky security got involved otherwise it could have been nasty."

The nightclub owner said on Friday and Saturday nights it was not uncommon for the club to have five security staff members, but he was surprised such an incident involving a knife had taken place on a Sunday night when it is generally quieter.

He said: "Our security staff do random body searches, but on Sunday nights it is usually quite relaxed compared to Friday and Saturday.

"Unfortunately, in every business you are always going to get idiots that spoil it for everyone else.

"We will help police with any investigation. We cooperate with them on many issues including drink spiking.

"However, we never have incidents involving knives at the venue and I can say it is isolated."

Dorset Police said officers were called to the club at around 2.40am on Monday (November 1) to reports three men were in possession of a knife at the venue.

Police said following enquiries, two local men – aged 20 and 31 – were arrested on suspicion of affray and possessing a bladed article.

They have been released on police bail as officers carry out further enquiries.

Police Constable Susan Tagg, of Dorset Police’s Volume Crime Team, said: "We're continuing to investigate this incident and I am appealing to any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please come forward.

"I would also like to hear from anyone who has captured any relevant dashcam, home CCTV or mobile phone footage relating to the incident."
