A GROUP of young people were caught climbing a crumbling historic site in Weymouth.

Police officers on patrol responded to a 'concerned' resident who saw young people climbing the ruins of Sandsfoot Castle on Tuesday evening (November 2).

The gang was warned by police officers about this 'dangerous activity' and reminded them that the area is cordoned off for their safety.

The castle ruins off Old Castle Road has been closed to the public since January after council workers found a ‘problematic’ crack had formed above the picture arch on the south side section of wall and an unsecured springer stone was left in a ‘dangerous condition’.
