DORCHESTER Town are fully focused on securing points at Swindon Supermarine, boss Glenn Howes insists.

Howes’ men were on Saturday knocked out of the FA Trophy by his former club AFC Totton – ruining the Magpies’ hopes of progression in the final cup competition available to them.

It means Dorchester, currently 19th in the Pitching In Southern League Premier South table, can draw level with Supermarine on 15 points should they triumph in Wiltshire.

Howes told Echosport: “We’re very much looking forward to it. It’s an opportunity to gain some much-needed points.

“Cup games are good to bring in financial gain to the club, but this season we’re going to be based on our league position.

“We don’t want to get carried away. It’s our first (league) game so we need to focus on that.

“It sounds a bit boring, but it’s a huge month. We’ve looked at the fixtures and it’s an incredible opportunity.

“It’s so important we hit the ground running.”

Supermarine are winless in 11 games. Asked if it is a good time to face them, Howes said: “I don’t think you can ever face a team at a good or bad time.

“They’ll be just as desperate as us to gain the points. I don’t think you can read too much into a team’s form because teams do bounce back.

“Hopefully that’s not against us.”

Oakley Hanger – Dorchester’s leading appearance-maker this season with 17 – is suspended, while Ash Wells (hamstring) and Sam Davidson (ankle) miss out. Sam Bayston (illness) returns.
