A FORMER member of Girls Aloud is backing a campaign to encourage families across the south west to maintain a healthier diet.

The new Better Health campaign has launched a free NHS Food Scanner app to encourage families in the south west to eat better, which is being backed by popstar Nadine Coyle.

It follows research from parental charity Netmums that 60 per cent of parents across the south west say they are giving their children more sugary or fatty snacks than before the pandemic.

Nadine Coyle said: "I find it hard to say no to my kid’s demands and often give in to snack pressure - even though I know it’s not that good for them. I had no idea some foods were so high in sugar, saturated fat and salt. It’s great the app gives you alternatives."

Professor Debbie Stark, south west director for Office for Health Improvement and Disparities, said: "There are surprising amounts of sugar, saturated fat and salt in the everyday food and drinks we give our kids, using the new NHS Food Scanner App is a great way to help families make quick and easy healthier swaps and make a real difference to their health."
