HOUSING Association bosses have warned residents on a congested street that those parking inappropriately will be reported.

This comes after residents complained that drivers were blocking a cul-de-sac on Portland with inconsiderate parking – leading to bins being uncollected, shopping deliveries having to be rescheduled and an ambulance getting stuck.

Aster Group wrote to residents of Coronation Road regarding the ongoing issue. The letter read: “It has been brought to my attention that residents of Coronation Road or their visitors are parking in front of the garages at the end of the road.

“Please refrain from parking in front of the garages as this is not an allocated parking area and access here needs to be kept free for vehicles to turn around.

“Any vehicles identified parking inappropriately will be reported to Dorset Highways for further investigation.”

Dorset Echo:

The letter comes after reports that vehicles are often double parked, pavements blocked and cars left on double yellow lines.

The garages are located at the end of the road where there is a turning circle which is frequently blocked by parked cars, making it difficult for delivery vehicles to manoeuvre – meaning drivers have been forced to reverse back up the long road to get out.

Bin lorries have been unable to collect waste on occasions, supermarket delivery vans have had trouble getting to homes, and a resident told how an ambulance became trapped and had difficulty getting out.

A spokesperson for Aster Group said: “Over the Christmas and new year period, some of our customers got in touch to report cars parking on double yellow lines in front of the garages on Coronation Road. This has resulted in the access being compromised for emergency vehicles due to cars being parked illegally.

“It’s crucial these residential roads are kept clear, in particular, so people can be reached in an emergency. This includes all routes in and out of Coronation Road and the turning area in front of these garages.

“As we do not have ownership of the road, we’d encourage anyone who sees a car parked on double yellow lines in the area, to report the issue to Dorset Council highways department."
