WEYMOUTH'S Vanarama National League game at Altrincham has been postponed due to Storm Eunice.

The Terras had been “mindful” of Storm Eunice due to making the long trip to Greater Manchester via coach in the 24 hours prior to kick-off tomorrow at 3pm.

And faced with travelling in the most dangerous winds of the storm, club officials have agreed to postpone the game.

It means Weymouth could face a lengthy midweek trip when the tie is rearranged, with no cast-iron date for the fixture's fulfilment yet set.

Red warnings for this morning were in place along parts of the South West. Amber alerts have been issued for much of the south of England and another red warning was issued for parts of eastern England.

One key priority for Weymouth was reaching their hotel this evening in good time while avoiding the worst of the elements stirred up by Eunice.

Speaking to Echosport before the postponement, manager David Oldfield said: “We will travel (today) and we’re mindful of the storm, certainly.

“We need to leave in enough time, make sure everybody’s as safe as possible and that the driver’s happy in what we’re doing. We’ll certainly do all we can.”

In a brief statement, Weymouth said: "Due to safety concerns caused by today’s adverse weather conditions, tomorrow’s National League fixture against Altrincham has been postponed.

"A new fixture date will be announced in due course. We thank the National League and Altrincham FC for their co-operation in this matter."

Weymouth continue to look for a third positive result in a row after claiming a 1-1 draw with high-flying Chesterfield and then beating Eastleigh 1-0 on Tuesday.

The Terras next host Bromley on Tuesday, February 22 (7.45pm).

Andreas Robinson (foot) and Ben Thomson (groin) are edging closer to a playing capacity but striker Dan Smith comes back into the reckoning after missing the win over parent club Eastleigh.

Martell Taylor-Crossdale remains injured and but Xander McBurnie is training.

Elsewhere, centre-back Taofiq Olomowewe moved to Dulwich Hamlet on loan in midweek and Oldfield did not rule out further loan exits.

He said: “It’s in my mind that some players will need minutes but we’ll have to manage that as we go forward.
