AN American cruise liner sailed into Portland Port this morning to bring thousands more tourists to Dorset.
Norwegian Dawn arrived with its tugboat Rupert Best at 10.34am this morning after travelling overnight from Ireland.
The vessel had 2,332 passengers on board and was built back in 2022, boasting 14 decks.
American liner the Norwegian Dawn is part of Portland Port's busy calendar of cruise ships that have been calling into Weymouth and Portland.
Last year, high winds prevented the liner from docking at Portland Harbour in September.
Norwegian Dawn, which flies under the flag of the Bahamas, measures 295 metres in length.
It was refurbished in 2021 and can also hold more than 1,000 crew members.
Portland Port says it is expecting a 23 per cent increase in cruise ship visitors this year with a record number of passengers set to arrive into Dorset in 2023.
The arrival of thousands of new people into the town has been a welcome boost for the local economy - however concerns have been raised over coaches transporting cruise ship passengers causing traffic mayhem.
The issue of transporting tourists to go sightseeing has led to problems in residential streets where coaches drop off and pick up passengers.
