A dream came true for a nonagenarian who was invited into the enchanting world of Narnia.

Tish Wilson, aged 94, of Poundbury, stepped into the snow-covered literary land courtesy of the Prince of Wales School.

Her daughter, Katie Smith, saw on social media that staff at the Dorchester school had created the fantasy land featured in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis.

Mrs Smith remembered that her mother recently mentioned how much she used to love the classic children’s tale.

She said: “When I go over to visit mum in the afternoon I normally put on a DVD for her and the other day she was telling me about one film and said ‘it’s a book I loved’ and by the process of elimination I realised it was The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe.

“On Facebook up popped a clip of the Prince of Wales School transformed into Narnia. I thought it was a bit cheeky but I emailed the headteacher and explained the situation and he very kindly invited us along to see Narnia at the school.”

Mrs Smith said she wished to thank school staff for going to so much effort to make her and her mum welcome, with provision made for a walking aid.

She added: “It was amazing. As soon as we got there, there were two members of staff waiting for us who took us round. The staff were so kind and enthusiastic.

“My mum said school was never like this in in her day!

“It was amazing that they took all the time and effort to do that. Mum said she will never forget it. It was just so special.”

The Maiden Castle Road school was transformed into Narnia to provide pupils with a week-long experience of inspired writing and creativity.

The school will remain as Narnia until Christmas and the aim of the transformation is to encourage children to become good writers.

Headteacher Gary Spracklen said the school was delighted to give Mrs Wilson a VIP experience.

“She was blown away and thought it was wonderful.

“We were overjoyed to oblige and provide Tish with a truly memorable experience.

"Seeing her eyes light up as she explored our Narnia wonderland was a heart-warming reminder of the power stories hold, transcending generations and bringing joy to young and old alike.

“We always like to build on the work we have done inspiring pupils to learn.”
