Weymouth residents are being welcomed to a free event where they can bring unwanted household items.

The 'Give or Take Day' will be held at the Latter Day Saints Church on Chickerell Road on March 16 and is being hosted by Dorset Council's Waste Services team.

People can bring up to 15 items and visitors can browse among the items donated and take anything they can make good use of home with them.

Items can be dropped off from 9am until 11.30am, and the doors open at 9.30am.

A spokesperson for Dorset Council Waste Services said: "Come along to our next Give or Take Day in Weymouth on Saturday  March 16 to swap things you don’t want for things you do - for free.

"The last six events prevented 3.7 tonnes of items from being thrown away, that were taken instead by delighted residents to reuse."

The event is free and there is no need to bring an item along to attend.

Types of items that can be brought be to the event are:

  • Small furniture
  • Kitchenware and other household items
  • Tools
  • Home entertainment (e.g. DVDs and CDs)
  • Bicycles
  • Toys and books
  • Clothes and reusable linen (e.g. curtains and sheets)
  • Bric-a-Brac.

Items that people should not bring are:

  • Duvets and pillows
  • Hazardous and toxic items
  • Large items (items that will not fit into a car)
  • Gas appliances
  • Electrical items
  • Items in poor condition.

Where possible, items that are left at the end of the day will be saved for future events, donated to local charities, furniture reuse centres or recycled.
