An appeal for witnesses has been issued by police after a man was reportedly robbed in Weymouth. 

As previously reported, Dorset Police received a report at 2.13pm on Thursday, April 18 that a man was assaulted in Crescent Street in Weymouth. 

In a subsequent police statement, it was alleged two men stole the man's wallet during the incident. 

The victim – a local man aged in his 50s – sustained injuries to his head and was taken to hospital by the ambulance service for treatment.

Shortly after, in the nearby area of Westham Bridge, officers arrested a 51-year-old man from Weymouth on suspicion of robbery.

Detectives are now making an appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Inspector Rhys Griffiths, of Dorset County CID, said: “We are carrying out enquiries to establish the circumstances of the incident and I am keen to speak to anyone who was in the area and witnessed what happened.

“Also, I am appealing to motorists who may have been travelling in the area and captured anything of relevance on dashcam footage to assist our enquiries.”
