Travellers who set themselves up on a field in Dorchester have been moved on. 

As previously reported, police were alerted to a group who had set up an unauthorised encampment on Kings Road in Dorchester. 

It is understood they arrived in the evening on Thursday, July 4 and they were subsequently issued with a legal notice to leave the site by 10am on Saturday, July 6. 

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "Dorset Police received a report at 8.02pm on Thursday, July 4 of an unauthorised encampment on Kings Road in Dorchester.

"Officers attended the site and, after liaising with those present as well as Dorset Council and Dorchester Town Council, the group were served with a notice under section 62a of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, requiring them to leave the site by 10am on Saturday 6 July 2024.

"The group departed at the time and date specified as per the direction.

"Officers monitored the site until this time to provide reassurance to the local community."
