A Georgian manor house that once played host to an acclaimed rural music festival has come onto the market for just under £3 million.

Plush Manor, set above the village of Plush in the Piddle Valley, is described as an elegant Georgian manor in a uniquely beautiful and peaceful setting.

Surrounded by chalk downs, ancient trees and sweeping views down an untouched valley, the house has long been a haven for creatives as well as a warm family home.

The property is currently on the market with Savills for £2,950,000.

Originally built in the late 18th century as a rectory, the property was extended in the 19th century with two symmetrical wings.

The main south‑facing elevation is classically Georgian, with five bays, rendered elevations under a slate roof and a central doorway framed by an elliptical fanlight and Tuscan‑columned portico. Projecting bay windows at either end capture the best of the southerly aspect.

Inside, many period features have been preserved. A central hallway has been opened up with an adjacent room to create a generous, welcoming space beneath a plastered vaulted ceiling.

The main staircase features open string balusters and a moulded mahogany handrail, leading up to a first floor with a principal bedroom suite and seven further bedrooms.

At the rear, there is also a self‑contained one‑bedroom flat with its own access.

Plush Manor’s rooms and grounds have long been steeped in music and conversation. The house was home to a much‑admired pianist and their family, who welcomed musicians, writers and thinkers over many years.

Out of those gatherings grew the Plush Music Festival, a summer event that gained a national reputation for its blend of classical, contemporary and jazz performances.

For 22 years, young players shared the stage with world‑renowned artists such as András Schiff, Alfred Brendel, Imogen Cooper and Adrian Brendel, and the festival hosted world premieres by composers including Harrison Birtwistle.
