AN HISTORIC riverside hotel in Dorset is celebrating 50 years since it first open its doors to guests.

Nestled on the banks of the River Frome, The Priory in Wareham marked the remarkable milestone with a special garden party attended by loyal guests, friends, neighbours and long-standing supporters.

Set against the backdrop of the hotel’s celebrated riverside gardens, guests gathered for an afternoon of cream teas, music, grill, conversation and celebration, reflecting on five decades of hospitality at one of Dorset’s most distinctive destinations.

The event was created as a thank you to the many guests who have supported the business, with many attendees having visited regularly over the years and becoming part of the fabric of the hotel’s story. A number of long-standing customers were invited to stay for the weekend.

Jeremy Merchant, managing partner at The Priory, said: Fifty years of The Priory is really a celebration of the people who have supported us over the years.

"We wanted to bring together the partners, guests, neighbours, friends and long-standing supporters to thank them for being part of our story. Many of those who joined us have created memories here over decades, and it was a privilege to celebrate this milestone with them."

Originally opened in 1976 by the Turner family, The Priory has become known for its unique blend of historic character, beautiful gardens, exceptional food and Dorset hospitality. Over the past 50 years it has welcomed thousands of visitors from across the UK and beyond.
