A Dorset restaurant in a "picturesque" location with "faultless" service has been ranked as one of the UK's best places for a ploughman's lunch.

The popular dish consists of crusty bread, meats, cheese and other accompaniments such as pickled onions, boiled eggs and salad.

It supposedly resembles what a ploughman might have eaten on a midday break in the fields.

The version that we know and love today was popularised as a pub dish in the 1950s, where it is still often served now.

Plenty of establishments offer the dish, with a whole host of venues having been ranked for it on the Ploughman's Lunch website.

The website is run by an individual who fell in love with ploughman’s lunches in their teenage years and has rated various establishments around the UK, giving a score out of 100.

The venue that is currently ranked in 10th spot is Clavells in Kimmeridge.

Why is Clavells Restaurant among the UK's best for a ploughman's lunch?

Clavells scored 89/100 to reach the top 10 slot of the list and it was praised for a number of reasons.

Its presentation was described as "outstanding" in the review, with "very good quality" ham and cheese that was locally sourced.

The pickle included as part of the dish was said to be "amazing" while the bread was "rustic" and "full of flavour".

Meanwhile, the inclusion of a sausage was "a bit random", but points were given for originality.

Additional points of praise were given to the "faultless and speedy" service and "one of the most picturesque locations imaginable".

Although the review was written all the way back in 2014, an editor's note reads: "This visit was now a while ago when it was the Kimmeridge Tea Rooms and Farm Shop.

"There is still ploughman’s on the menu, and I suspect that it is as good if not better now.

"Give it a try and let me know!"

On the restaurant's menu, a ploughman's lunch can be bought for £18, with the option to add on a side of gourmet chips for £6.90.

This consists of mature Cheddar cheese, brie, local pork sausage, boiled egg, apple, chutney, coleslaw, crusty bread and butter.
