A 24-year-old motorcyclist has tragically lost his life in a crash on the coast road.
Emergency services were called to the B3157 at Chickerell Hill, near Bagwell Farm Touring Park, just after 10.20am after a crash was reported, involving a white Toyota van and a green Kawasaki motorbike.
Sadly, the rider of the motorbike, a 24-year-old man from Weymouth, died at the scene.
Dorset Police say his family has been informed and HM Coroner notified.
The driver of the van was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Road closures were put in place between the Fleet roundabout and Nottington Lane while emergency services responded to the incident and to allow specialists to examine the scene.
Firefighters, paramedics and the air ambulance were also called.
Dorset Police is now appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
Police Sergeant Dan Yates, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “Our thoughts are very much with the motorcyclist’s family at this very difficult time.
“I would urge anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle immediately prior to it and have not yet spoken to officers, to please get in touch with us. If you captured anything of relevance on dashcam, please also come forward.
“I would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding during the road closures, which were entirely necessary to allow emergency services to respond to the incident and investigate what happened.”
