A SECOND motorcyclist has tragically died in a crash near Weymouth.

Dorset Police received a report at 11.57am on Sunyof a collision involving a Suzuki motorbike and a silver Vauxhall Zafira car on the A353 at Poxwell.

Emergency services attended and very sadly the motorcyclist – a local 22-year-old man – was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed.

Two occupants of the Vauxhall Zafira were taken to hospital with injuries believed to be serious at this time.

Road closures were put in place to allow the emergency services to respond and for an examination of the scene to be conducted.

It is the second fatality on Dorset's roads today after a 24-year-old was killed in a crash on the coast road between Weymouth and Bridport near Chickerell.

Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward.

Sergeant David Cotterill, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the motorcyclist who sadly died and we will be carrying out a thorough investigation to establish the full circumstances of this collision.

“I would urge any witnesses or anyone who may have captured relevant dashcam footage to please contact us.

“I would also like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding during the road closures.”
