 The Sherborne

At the heart of Sherborne, a remarkable Grade I listed house has become one of Dorset's most distinctive cultural destinations. The Sherborne brings art, heritage, food and community together beneath one extraordinary roof. Its historic rooms reveal layers of story, from Sir James Thornhill's magnificent Baroque mural to bold contemporary exhibitions and new commissions by leading artists.

In 2026, visitors can encounter Sir Quentin Blake's joyful new mural, The Joy of the Frog, alongside an evolving programme of exhibitions, live music, talks, cinema, workshops, outdoor theatre and family activities. The house is a place to look closely, think differently, make something, share a meal or simply spend time in beautiful surroundings.

Beyond the galleries, explore the gardens, browse the shop, stop for coffee and cake in the light-filled Pavilion, or enjoy lunch, dinner and Sunday lunch in The Sherborne's restaurant. Creative activity spills throughout the building, inviting visitors of all ages to take part rather than simply observe.

Entry to The Sherborne is free, with donations gratefully received. As an independent charity, every visit helps preserve this important historic house and supports its growing cultural programme. Visitors can also become founding members, supporting the next chapter of The Sherborne.

Come for the art, stay for the stories, and discover a place where Dorset's heritage meets contemporary imagination.

The Tivoli

After The Tivoli re-opened on November 23rd, 1993, and managed by Malcolm, Charlie North Lewis was appointed in 2002 to ‘take it to the next level’. Charlie has spent most of his working life in the entertainment industry in various roles. In 1979 he was a sound engineer which strangely led to selling concert merchandise. That proved to have been fortuitous when he emigrated to Canada and later, bumped into a tour manager he knew while working at a large outdoor music venue in Toronto. This prompted a promotion, and he then became a theatre manager at a few theatres.

Upon his return to England, Charlie was offered a job at BAFTA which was where he saw the advert for Wimborne. He was hired in 2002 and is still there! Over the past twenty-four years, he has managed to increase the turnover considerably and has brought some very big names to the venue.

Thanks to Ben Waters, Charlie Watts, Ronnie Wood and Imelda May have graced the stage. Robert Plant, John Lydon, Francis Rossi, Toyah, Justin Hawkins, Nik Kershaw, Ginger Baker, Albert Lee, Chris Farlowe, Wishbone Ash, The Blues Band Joan Armatrading, Chas and Dave, Pete Doherty, Paul Young, Jim Davidson, Lee Evans, Jimmy Tarbuck, Lee Mack, Eddie Izzard, Al Murray, Jason Manford, among others have also played there.

The Tivoli’s diverse entertainment line-up includes the best music, stand-up comedy, dance and latest cinema releases. Audiences also enjoy dramatic stage plays, musicals and family-friendly shows performed by local and touring companies.

In recent years, the Tivoli Pantomime has become one of Dorset’s finest, initially thanks to Ron Martin and now Made to Measure who have increased attendance and turnover considerably.

Of course, we’d be lost without our wonderful support staff and amazing volunteers!
