WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley praised his players for keeping calm and getting the job done with a 3-1 win at Taunton Town in the FA Trophy first qualifying round.

Molesley revealed after the match that Warren Bentley sustained a severe concussion at training on Thursday night.

“It was a real worry to everyone in the squad, because it was quite a nasty one.

“I think the news is that he has just got out of hospital.

“I was really pleased with the response to the game.

“Everyone was in a bit of a low place after that.

“He is one of our players, we are a tight group and we were really worried for him.

“We are delighted to see that he is out of hospital now and he is on the mend.

“It hit the players hard. You do worry going into the game and it is hard to keep your focus on football when you are concerned for one of your team-mates.

“I think they were buoyed by the news that Warren was alright and they put in a true professional performance.

“It shook the whole group, we are a tight-knit group and we obviously had concerns but he is alright and luckily we got the news through that he was okay.”

On the pitch, Weymouth were dominant and could have scored several more if not for a fantastic performance from the Peacocks’ goalkeeper Lloyd Irish.

Goals from Brandon Goodship, his 50th for the club, Stephane Zubar and Josh Wakefield saw Weymouth come away with a superb victory, despite Matt Wright narrowing the score to 2-1 midway through the second half.

Speaking about the Terras’ fans, when noted that they must be delighted, Molesley said: “So they should be, it was a good away performance.

“I think they were rewarded in their efforts in coming to see us, in the rain as well. It was a proper winter day.

“It felt like winter so the supporters came out and braved the elements and I think they were rewarded, with a good performance from us.

The two sides had met in August with a late goal from Abdulai Baggie sealing a late win for Weymouth at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

When noted that it contrasted with their previous match against Taunton, Molesley said: “We obviously started very poorly against them at our place, they began very strongly but we started both halves well.

“It felt like we were in quite good control of the game but Taunton are a threat that never goes away, they are a good side.”

Molesley lamented the nature of their goal, which happened a minute after Weymouth had taken Ashley Wells off a minute prior to their goal, who had a knock while Josh Wakefield also sustained an ankle injury late on.

“You can never take the foot of the gas for a moment and unfortunately that happened for their goal.

“It was a little bit of a soft one from our point of view.”

“Apart from that I think the boys managed the game well and saw out a deserved win.”

Molesley admitted that the two will have to be assessed a later point.

“It is unfortunate for the players, because our squad is quite a small squad but it is full of quality and I want everyone available and everyone wants to be.”
