CHICKERELL UNITED 2

ALLENDALE 2

CHICKERELL United were held to their third consecutive 2-2 draw with Allendale in the Dorset Senior League.

Strikes from Nick Etherington and a late penalty from Jake McCarthy claimed the draw for the Chickens.

The game started at a frantic pace, with the Chickens creating a chance that was put out for a goal-kick for Allendale.

Chickerell would be able to open the scoring with 20 minutes on the clock however.

After a good flowing move involving nine passes, McCarthy pulled the ball back for Matt Stickland who fired in a shot that was well-saved by the Allendale goalkeeper.

However, Etherington was on hand to fire in the parried ball to hand the home side the lead.

Just after the Chickens’ goal, Ryan Pryce almost doubled the lead, but he fired straight at the Allendale goalkeeper.

Allendale had the perfect chance to equalise just before half-time, when they were awarded a penalty from a break away when Gavin Daniels committed a foul inside the box.

However, to Chickerell’s relief, the ball was blazed over the bar.

After the break, Chickerell began to struggle.

A Chickerell corner was cleared away but not dealt with by the Chickens, which allowed Allendale to rush forward and slot the ball past Ian Bickerstaff in the Chickens’ goal after 60 minutes.

Allendale then took the lead when Chickerell lost possession on the edge of the box, and the visitors made no mistake to grab a second goal.

This seemed to wake Chickerell up, as they began to pepper the Allendale goal with efforts.

The Allendale goalkeeper made a series of brilliant saves, firstly tipping Dylan Ackerman’s shot onto the post, before making a double save from Stickland and then McCarthy.

Allendale had further chances when Chickerell were pressing as the game blossomed into life for the last 20 minutes.

McCarthy then broke down the left, got inside the box and got taken down to hand the Chickens a superb chance.

McCarthy got up and made no mistake from the spot, tucking it into the bottom right-hand corner to hand Chickerell the lead.

There was no further action for the rest of the match as the two teams once again fought out a draw.
