PORTLAND Red Triangle captain Matt Randell hopes that home comforts can help the top order batsmen gain confidence, when they host Broadstone Seconds in County Division One tomorrow (1.30pm).

The top order batsmen had a nightmare in Portland’s four-wicket win over Compton House, with five wickets gone for just 12 runs but Randell hopes that playing at home can help.

He said: “Everyone says that Portland is a tough place to come and play but I don’t think we feel that at all.

“We enjoy playing at home, we have had some of our best results at home and we always find it a relatively easy place to bat and score runs so we are hoping that playing at home will help some of those top order batsmen feel a little bit more confident.

“You usually get good value for your shots at Portland, with the outfield being quick and the ball comes on relatively OK.

“Hopefully that will help with the top order a little bit and allow a few of them to push on and get a bit of confidence heading into the rest of the season.”
