NEW signings at Weymouth are “imminent”, according to vice-chairman Paul Maitland.

The Terras have so far signed 12 players for the 2021/22 Vanarama National League season.

Manager Brian Stock has been busy utilising his contacts and surveying the jam-packed world of free agents – this year enlarged due to the financial strain put on clubs by Covid-19.

Speaking to Echosport, Maitland said: “Negotiations are ongoing with players. There some more new arrivals imminent but certain players’ contracts haven’t finished yet.

“Some don’t finish until the 30th of June and for one or two other outstanding players, bits and pieces are being tidied up.”

On the contractual reasons for the delay in announcing new players, Stock added: “We are just making sure we do things right in terms of releasing that and when we release that.

“Recruitment-wise, there’s one or two in the pipeline.”

Of the previous season’s squad, the futures of centre-half Jacob Mensah, striker Ben Thomson and goalkeeper Harrison Bruton remain unsettled.

Weymouth have allowed 11 players to leave the club, including popular midfielders Jake McCarthy, Jordan Ngalo and Josh Wakefield.

Elsewhere, Weymouth have agreed pre-season friendlies with Swindon Town and Bridgwater United, the latter with whom Adam Murry is heavily involved.

The businessman was linked with investment in Weymouth last summer before turning his attentions to the Somerset club, who have dropped ‘Town’ from their title.

Weymouth will host Swindon on Saturday, July 24 (3pm) one week after travelling to the Robins (3pm).
