WEYMOUTH Women made history as they beat Alton Ladies 5-1 on their Women’s FA Cup debut.

A crowd of over 200 watched a thrilling encounter at the Bob Lucas Stadium, which saw the Terras overcome their Hampshire County Division One counterparts in the second qualifying round.

Weymouth had a dream start on 11 minutes when Charlie Wilson squared to Naomi Johnson to tap in from close-range.

They thought they had doubled their lead soon after when Howard lobbed the goalkeeper from out wide, only for a controversial offside flag to deny the goal.

Alton then felt aggrieved when they had an equaliser chalked off for an adjudged foul on Cimon Barnard-Irons in the build-up.

Howard doubled the Terras lead with the pick of the goals 66 minutes in, scooping the ball over the advancing Sophie Bulpitt from 25-yards out.

Moments later player-manager Tasha Sibley fired home from a corner to increase Weymouth’s advantage to three.

Zoe Kotoula did give Alton a lifeline when her 30-yard shot went over a crowd of heads and dropped into the back of the net.

But Terras strikers Howard and Lily Beasley both added goals in the last 10 minutes to complete a dream afternoon for their side.

Howard slotted in from the edge of the penalty area, before Beasley was superbly played in by Sophie Webber-Green to calmly finish a one-on-one opportunity.

Weymouth will now face Sherborne Town in the third qualifying round on Sunday, October 24.
