WEYMOUTH manager Brian Stock is confident his players will rise to the occasion for the “massive” FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie at rivals Yeovil Town tomorrow (3pm).

In arguably the tie of the round, the Terras travel to their old enemies for the first FA Cup derby between the sides in almost 34 years.

On that occasion, at exactly the same stage of the competition, Weymouth lost 3-1.

However, the Terras are bidding to end a 14-season wait to reach the main draw and win a competitive fixture at Huish Park for the first time in nearly 33 years.

With the gravity of the fixture fully impressed upon him, Stock admitted Weymouth’s preparation for the game has “ticked a lot of boxes”.

“It’s a massive game for us,” he told Echosport. “It’s finally come upon us and the players are fully aware of what it means to the club.

“We’ve had a really good full week’s worth of training in preparation. We’ve ticked a lot of boxes.”

Asked if the Terras’ squad can rise to the occasion, Stock said: “Most definitely.

“We’ve had a lot of eyes on Yeovil over the last two games. I was present to watch them against Altrincham, so we know what they’re about.

“Sometimes when it comes to these occasions, the tactical stuff goes out of the window for the first 20 minutes and it’s one of those where you have to roll your sleeves up and earn the right to play.

“We need players that are mentally prepared to do that, players that have played in those situations before that can call upon that experience and take it into the game.”

Yeovil have one of the youngest squads in the National League but Stock is not fooled by the Glovers’ perceived inexperience.

He said: “With that comes youthfulness, energy. They’ve got legs in their team so they’ll be a threat.

“They put the ball in areas where we’re going to have to be very resolute in order to win first contacts and second balls. We know what they’re going to bring to the table.

“We have to concentrate on ourselves so if they do something different that we’re not expecting it won’t throw us off course with the job in hand.

“I’d be surprised if it isn’t blood and guts with a local derby. We let ourselves down last year, there’s no two ways about it.

“We didn’t fight, we got outmuscled, out-bullied and it wasn’t a pleasant watch for myself. I’m sure the supporters would agree.

“The one thing we need to make sure of is that we rise to that occasion. Although we want fire in the belly, we need to remain calm in our heads.

“If we can manage that then hopefully we’ll remain composed when it comes to our decision making on and off the ball.”

Centre-half Ben Morgan (Achilles) is rated as “touch and go”.

Midfielder Xander McBurnie is doubtful with his own Achilles problem after playing the final 35 minutes at Halifax last week but Andreas Robinson is expected to be fit.
