BELLE CONSTRUCTION 71

COASTAL CHEESE 34

COASTAL Cheese gave reigning champions Belle Construction a scare before succumbing 71-34 in the South & West Dorset League Premier Division

Newly-promoted Coastal started strong, catching Belle off guard in the opening minutes and using long, accurate passes through court and into their shooters.

Belle’s defence did then switch on to this and came up with interceptions which their shooters quickly converted.

Belle lifted the intensity in the second quarter, shooting accurately and scoring quickly. Coastal were managing to get the ball into their shooters using fast, flat passes however they were not as accurate as their opponents and the Belle defenders took several rebounds.

The second half continued in much the same way, however Coastal’s shooters were now scoring much more frequently. Meanwhile, Coastal’s defence was forcing Belle’s attack tow work with patience and work the ball around to create a shooting opportunity.

Belle pulled off another big win but Coastal had a great performance and the game felt much tighter than the score suggested.

LULWORTH LIGHTNING 13

CORFE CRUSADERS 60

THIS Division One inter-club match began with both teams’ defence putting lots of pressure on their opponents, Corfe Crusaders eventually prevailing 60-13 over Lulworth Lightning.

Corfe’s WA Claire Putnam, however, helped her team work around this with her sharp feeding into the shooters.

Corfe had a very strong second quarter and, despite some good positioning from Lulworth’s attack, Corfe extended their lead substantially going into half-time.

Lulworth kept their morale high throughout the second half and, while both teams used strong passes and played at a fast pace, Corfe’s confident attacking saw them pull ahead and take the win.

WJNC WARRIORS 56

CRESTA LEISURE 19

ALSO taking a big win in Division One were WJNC Warriors, beating Cresta Leisure 56-19.

Warriors used confident passes and strong interceptions to make a quick start. Cresta began to find their rhythm as the first quarter went on and made sharper passes.

However, some mistakes from Cresta on their centre passes allowed Warriors to dominate the first quarter.

A change for Warriors in GS did not affect their play and they continued to go from strength to strength.

Cresta kept their heads up and did make some good interceptions, making the second quarter slightly closer than the first.

There was a much faster pace from both sides in the third quarter, which Cresta seemed to be able to control better than Warriors.

Cresta’s defence improved in the second half, with their GK Ellie Rust’s constant efforts to defend Warrior’s shots, however Warriors had built up too much of a lead and were too dominant on this occasion.

SANDSFOOT SIRENS 13

WJNC WILDCATS 66

WJNC Wildcats were another team to score a large haul of points, defeating Sandsfoot Sirens 66-13 in Division Two.

This match involved several players who are new to the league and was a brilliant example of how popular netball has become in the area.

Wildcats started well, with some strong interceptions from their GD Brooke Batchelor and GK Laura Matthews, meaning they took an early lead.

Sirens, however, then brought the score back thanks to some great shots from GA Lexi Davis.

Sirens continued this momentum into the second quarter, however Wildcats quickly regained control of the game, using strong passes through the mid-court.

Sirens made some changes going into the second half, which helped them move the ball through court, but Wildcats continued to show their strength, using dynamic movement to keep their score ticking over and ultimately took a very convincing win.
