NEW Weymouth manager David Oldfield described the Terras’ 1-1 draw at Boreham Wood as a “big result”.

Claiming a point against a side who are now unbeaten in 12 Vanarama National League home games stopped the grim run of seven consecutive league losses for Weymouth.

And the Terras had to equalise to share the points, Jamie Reckord’s own goal cancelling out Frankie Raymond’s opener.

There was also drama when, midway through the second half, Weymouth’s Omar Mussa went to ground with breathing difficulties plus pain in his shoulder region, causing the game to be suspended and players to return to the dressing rooms.

However, when Mussa walked off play restarted and Weymouth almost took the three points when Tom Bearwish saw a header saved and Brandon Goodship’s shot was deflected wide.

Mussa was later given the all-clear by medical staff, bringing to an end Oldfield’s first matchday in charge.

Weymouth now lie eight points behind Wealdstone, who occupy the final safe spot, after Maidenhead beat ex-leaders Halifax 1-0.

Oldfield told Echosport: “The players did the work and stood up. We need to make sure that it’s not a one-off and that we do it again.

“We can’t take anything for granted. We did well, that doesn’t mean we’ll do well again (against Dagenham).

“We need to make sure we’re back to work and preparing as well as we can, but it’s a big result and the players collectively worked hard for that result.

“After the Omar incident we warmed up, got back into the game and had a couple of chances on the break that maybe we could’ve done better at.

“But we resisted and defended well and we need to make sure that we do it again (tomorrow).”

Oldfield remains positive yet cautious, stressing the importance of focusing on the next game.

He said: “It was a very big challenge against a really good side.

“From our point of view it was a hard-working effort that absolutely needed to be. We feel a little better and it’s a step forward.

“We need to keep taking those steps forward. It’s done now, it’s gone. We need to prepare ourselves for the next one.”
