BELLE CONSTRUCTION 51

BUGLERS 34

BELLE Construction maintained their perfect record with a 51-34 victory over Buglers in the South & West Dorset Premier Division.

There was an explosive start from Belle, with shooters Ashleigh Browne and Laura Bucke getting their eyes in early.

Despite some excellent play between Buglers’ attackers, the speed of Belle’s defence meant they led at quarter time.

It was a much closer second quarter, with Buglers managing to match Belle’s intensity and some outstanding defending from Buglers’ GK Stacey Sollid.

Belle worked the ball well around the shooting circle in the third quarter, remaining calm under the pressure from Buglers’ defenders and patiently working the ball to goal, extending their lead to 13 goals.

Buglers continued to make Belle work hard for their goals in the final quarter.

Meanwhile, Buglers’ WA Niamh Randall demonstrated strong and precise passes into her shooters but Belle took victory in this well-contested game.

TEAM WAIKIKI 26

LULWORTH LIGHTNING 32

LULWORTH Lightning produced a comeback victory over Team Waikiki, winning 32-26 in Division One.

Lulworth started moving the ball quickly up the court, however, thanks to some hard work from Waikiki’s defence and strong interceptions from their GD Lauren Dabbs, it was a very close first quarter, with Lulworth only one goal up.

Both teams started the second quarter at a fast and intense pace. The close score put pressure on all players, and kept all spectators thoroughly engaged.

Waikiki’s GS Cat Simmonds shot accurately despite the pressure. This, combined with great passing from their C Becky Thomas, meant Waikiki pulled away and led by nine goals at half-time.

Waikiki’s strong second quarter forced Lulworth to make some tactical changes for the second half.

Their defence worked exceptionally hard for the team, fighting for every intercept and rebound. The changes and commitment in defence paid off, as they trailed by just four goals by final quarter.

Lulworth worked hard and managed to level the scores, setting up for a tense end.

Thanks to great shooting from Lulworth’s GS Ali Britten, as well as an amazing team performance, Lulworth fought back for the win.

WARMER HOME IMPROVEMENTS B 15

JOE NEWTON ELECTRICAL 57

JOE Newton Electrical claimed a hefty 57-15 triumph over Warmer Home Improvements B in Division Two.

After a confident first goal from Joe Newton, Warmer quickly matched them and both teams were on the scoreboard early.

There was some excellent passing into the shooters from Warmer’s WA Fiona Less, however Joe Newton’s defence were all over Warmer’s attack. This led to several counter attacks and a number of quick goals.

Joe Newton continued this in the second quarter, with their attack now flowing smoothly. Despite struggling to find space in attack, Warmer showed patience and continued to put goals on the board.

Warmer were now contesting more in defence but the pace of Joe Newton’s play slowed, allowing Warmer to finish strongly, although not well enough to claw back the deficit.

WJNC WARRIORS 33

ZEST 10

ZEST fell to a 33-10 defeat against WJNC Warriors in Division Two.

This was a tough match up for Zest against an experienced Warriors team who made a strong start to the game.

There was some solid defending from Zest GD Fiona Wilcox and GK Jacqueline Swindell, and Warriors played a fast-paced game to counter this.

After a few team changes at quarter time, Zest’s defence stepped up in intensity.

Warriors also remained strong after making changes, and maintained their fast play. Zest’s midcourt worked well together to create space.

Pressure from Zest’s defence early in the third quarter forced mistakes from Warriors.

This resulted in end-to-end play as both attacking ends struggled under pressure, with the defences picking up several interceptions and rebounds.

Zest continued their strong defence in the final quarter; however, Warriors’ shooters Georgia Pearson and Izzy Faulkner were now working well together to overcome this, shooting confidently and accurately, as their team took the win.
