In the second quarter, McCarthy used the court really well with swift, accurate passing and fantastic shooting from GS Mandy Grafton saw them extend the lead to 36-18 at half-time.

Through the third and fourth quarters Pirates continued to work hard and were able to convert a number of turnovers into goals.

Both teams demonstrated quality passing and movement through the midcourt but as the match progressed it was the accuracy of the McCarthy shooting duo of Mandy Grafton and Lanni Sellick that ensured the title went to their team.

GUNGHO MARKETING 50

BUGLERS 31

IN THE Premier Division, Gungho Marketing claimed a 50-31 win over Buglers to finish runners-up.

It was an energetic start from both teams but fast play through the court created more opportunities for the Gungho shooters Evie Hambleton-White and Maisie Fowler.

The Buglers' defensive duo of GD Chloe Grier and GK Cat Kelly marked tightly through the first half but it was Gungho with the half-time lead of 24-17.

As the second half progressed, Buglers' GA Kat Frampton kept her team in touch with some excellent shots but ultimately the Gungho speed of play through court and shooting accuracy resulted in victory.

CORFE CRUSADERS 34

WARMER HOME IMPROVEMENTS A 24

CORFE Crusaders strengthened their fourth place in the Premier Division with a 34-24 win over Warmer Home Improvements A.

This match was closely contested from the start. Pinpoint passing from Corfe allowed them to take an early lead but Warmer’s GD Lauren Banks slowed them down with some impressive interceptions.

In a defensive first quarter Corfe’s WD Charlie Smith and GD Marcelina Przybysz deflected a number of passes that enabled Corfe to hold a 6-4 lead at the first break.

Through the second quarter the defensive efforts continued with Warmer C Becky Hallett and GD Jenny Ayles, and Corfe GK Laura Pearson making key interceptions resulting in a low-scoring quarter and a half-time lead for Corfe 13-11.

The third quarter saw a determined Warmer team take control through the mid court and GA Linzi Gardner and GS Stacey Groves were instrumental in turning the score around and Warmer went into the third quarter break leading 22-19.

The final quarter saw a stellar comeback from Corfe with GS Laura Gardner and GA Madison Carter finding their rhythm at the shooting end.

With the defence of Pearson and Przybysz continuing to disrupt Warmer’s attacking play Corfe finished the match as winners 34-24.

WARMER HOME IMPROVEMENTS B 35

WJNC WILDCATS 25

WARMER Home Improvements B fared better than their A team, beating WJNC Wildcats 35-25 in Division Two.

Warmer’s B team started well with accurate passing by C Chloe Grove into GA Sophie MacNaughton who secured some excellent long-range shots.

Wildcats passed the ball well down the court and C Abi Pearson took some excellent high passes and attacked the play.

The defensive efforts of Warmer B’s GK Sarah Bryant and GD Juliette Frampton minimised the shooting opportunities for Wildcats and it was Warmer B who led 22-9.

Through the second half, Wildcats made changes in their defence which prevented Warmer from extending their lead further.

Warmer’s GS Amy Hallett was shooting accurately from distance but the Wildcats' GS Caitlin Bennett and GA Maraia Ratulailai were also accurate with their shots.

At the end of the match Wildcats had reduced the score difference with Warmer B winning 35-25.
