WEYMOUTH chairman Ian White and director Mark Palmer have resigned from the club's board with immediate effect.

Paul Maitland has been named as acting CEO with Simon Etherington overseeing the club's finances in the "period of adjustment".

Echosport understands neither man will sit on the club's board and that Maitland will be absent from Saturday's home game against Ebbsfleet due to a prior engagement - highlighting the suddenness of the developments.

White has been chairman since February 2018 when he was named the permanent successor to Steve Mills.

He had expected to quit as chairman by the end of the 2021/22 season but stayed in charge over the summer.

Palmer has resigned from the board but has worked on sponsorship deals to generate extra funds for the Terras.

Weymouth have been forced to raise cash to alleviate financial difficulty, with the generated funds stabilising the club this week.

A fans' forum is scheduled for Monday at 7pm.

A statement released by the Terras said: "Weymouth FC board of directors can confirm that chairman Ian White has resigned from his position and as a director of club with immediate effect.

"This resignation has been accepted by the board. The club can also confirm that Mark Palmer has resigned from the board of directors which has also been accepted by the board.

"Considering these resignations, the board are pleased to announce that following discussions, Simon Etherington will be coming back into the fold to oversee the club's finances.

"Alongside Simon we would also like to welcome back Paul Maitland who will be acting as the club's CEO during this period of adjustment.

"The club will be holding a fans' forum on Monday evening 7pm, at the Bob Lucas Stadium, to update all fans of the situation and the way forward.

"In the meantime, we ask the supporters to get behind the team on Saturday and to avoid speculation.

"No further comment will be made until Monday night."

White and Palmer were not present at Weymouth's 3-1 loss to Tonbridge on Saturday.

Maitland and Etherington are the figureheads of the process to steer Weymouth back on course.

The duo have held positions high in Weymouth's hierarchy before, Maitland as vice-chairman and Etherington as finance director.

Maitland will focus on his speciality, the sporting side, with Etherington casting his eye over the finances.

Both men will carry out their roles for the immediate future.

Other figures close to the club in previous years are understood to have pledged money.
