FORMER Weymouth assistant boss Tom Donati has issued a classy statement of thanks following his departure from the Terras this week.

Weymouth mutually parted company with manager David Oldfield and Donati following Tuesday’s 2-1 loss at Bath, where the duo had overseen the club’s worst league start in its 132-year history.

Donati joined the Terras in late February, one month after Oldfield took over, assisting in 23 games and earning just one victory in that time with only eight points.

Donati has previously held head of academy roles at Peterborough and Cambridge United and managed both Charlton Ladies and London Bees.

And in a heartfelt message, Donati expressed his gratitude to the players, supporters and staff at Weymouth.

Taking to Twitter, he said: “To everyone at Weymouth Football Club it’s been a pleasure to work tirelessly for the Terras.

“Extremely frustrating to not have got better results for the fans, players and club both in the National League and National League South.

“To all the Weymouth FC fans you have been amazing.

“Loud and proud of the club and followed up and down the country in some extremely tough circumstances home and away. What a credit to the town and the football club.

“To all the staff at the football club, supports staff, match day, non-match day, the volunteers, the people behind the scenes that make match days happen, thank you all!

“The football club simply wouldn’t work without you all and all of your efforts.

“To all the players that have worked tirelessly, I thank you all from the bottom of my heart!

“You have each given your blood, sweat and tears to the process and been relentless up until the very last minutes on Tuesday night at Bath City.

“I wish you all the best for the season collectively and for the future individually. You know we love you all.

“Finally, to the gaffer. David Oldfield. A man of such experience and absolute and undeniable class.

“From start to finish one of the most respectful, honest and integral humans in life, let alone football, with a grace and humility to stand amongst the fans, integrate the football club as best he/we could in the toughest of circumstances.”
